Example EAL Activities

Below are two samples of the activities available in the Easiteach EAL content pack. Both are whole class teaching activities, one from English and the other from Science. If you have Easiteach Literacy tools, click the Easiteach logo to download the Easibook and try out these lessons for yourself. If you have Easiteach Studio, you can still open the files, but will not be able to use the Literacy tools within the activity. If you do not have Easiteach Studio or Easiteach Literacy, you can still view the teaching notes and preview the Easiteach screens by clicking Details and Teaching Notes.

Overview
This activity develops pupils' ability to distinguish between literal and figurative language, focusing on figurative techniques within descriptive language. It shows how such writing can help create a picture in the reader's 'mind's eye'. It may be used to reinforce NLS work on simile.

Dr Jenner's experiment
Details and Teaching Notes
Aims
In this activity pupils read an account of Edward Jenner's discovery of vaccination, make judgments about evidence that supports scientific ideas, and identify the steps in Jenner's famous experiment.
